Scope of work
Contractors needed to demolish and rebuild a mainline rail bridge on a section of flood river with minimum disruption to service.
The solution would need to support a 5 tonne excavator being transported under the bridge to the downstream end and facilitate removal of the abutment.
Solution
We installed a 700m2 single layer pontoon fitted with load spreading deck mats and Combisafe hand railing offering edge protection to the outer edges of the platform. Constructed tightly around the abutments the pontoon provided a working platform for demolition, piling and debris fall arrest. The works were completed within 8 weeks with very little disruption to the rail service.
